Tour 1: Midlothian Power Plant - FULL CAPACITY - NO SPACES AVAILABLE
The Midlothian natural gas power generating plant is ~1,600 MW in total from 6 CCGT units and located in the South Dallas-Fort Worth area, one of the hottest areas for data center development in the country (there is already a large Google data center in the area, as well as “traditional” other large loads such as steel and cement manufacturing).
The plant, which is approximately 45 minutes from downtown Fort Worth, is operated by Vistra Corp based in Irving, Texas. Vistra is the largest competitive power generator in the U.S. from a diverse mix of sources including natural gas, nuclear, solar, and battery storage. This tour will include briefings on the grounds of the facility and an escorted visit into the generating plant itself. The tour includes transportation to and from The Worthington Renaissance Fort Worth Hotel.
Tour 2: Barnett Shale Gas Tour - FULL CAPACITY - NO SPACES AVAILABLE
The Barnett Shale is one of the largest onshore natural gas fields in the U.S. Of equal or greater significance is that the Barnett Shale is where the extraction techniques of horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing were first broadly commercially deployed, launching the 'energy renaissance' of the 21st century and the explosion of domestic onshore U.S. natural gas and crude oil production.
The Barnett Shale underlies the city of Fort Worth and parts of 17 surrounding counties. This tour will include a natural gas processing plant, and potentially a drilling site (depending on rig timing), and a visit to a groundbreaking carbon sequestration facility not far from Fort Worth. This tour can accommodate up to 30 people. The tour includes transportation to and from The Worthington Renaissance Fort Worth Hotel.
